Liverpool is bidding to host the World Gymnastic Championships in 2022.
The bid is the combined work of the city council, UK Sport and British Gymnastics and will go before the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
If Liverpool succeeds, the championships will bring 700 gymnasts to the city from across the globe for 10 days of competition for the biggest international sporting event ever to be held at the Echo Arena.
Former world champion Beth Tweddle said “it fills me with a huge amount of excitement and great pride” to imagine the championships in Liverpool.
The winning bid is expected to be announced in May 2018.
