2006 World Cup Final winners Karen Cockburn and Rosannagh MacLennan (CAN) outclassed their rivals in these preliminaries, especially in synchronization as they average 9.60 pt synchronization marks in both routines.

UPDATE 14

It is confirmed that tumbler Yves Tarin (FRA) ruptured his Achilles' heel yesterday in training.

2005 Ostend World Cup winner Yuliya Hall (USA) also unfortunately suffered from a an injury at her calf in her first pass.  She withrdrew for the second pass.  As a result, she took the 13th and last place in tubling.

In the absence of Samantha Palmer (GBR), Anna Korobeynikova (RUS) dominated her rivals.

In the men's, Tagir Murtazaev (RUS) and Wang Jiexu (CHN) took the top two spots.

UPDATE 13

In the women's individual trampoline, Irina Karavaeva (RUS) and Karen Cockburn (CAN) dominated the preliminaries.  Cockburn performed her new 14.60 pt tariff in her second optional featuing a full in rudy out layout, as well as a first routine with a 3.20 pt tariff.

Chinese Huang Shanshan, Zhong Xingping, and Li Meng followed.  Huang and Zhong performed reduced degrees of difficulty (14.10 pts and 14.20 pts).  Erin Blanchard (USA) delivered a nice performance and will represent the host country in the final.  Claire Wright (GBR) with her new 14.60 pt tariff, Jaime Moore (GBR), and Yulia Domchevska (UKR) also reached the final.

Sarah Charles (CAN) missed the final by few tenths.  Rosannagh MacLennan (CAN) took the 11th place as her full in full out layout was ruled to be in a tucked position, causing her to lose 1.60 pts as she had already performed a full in full out tucked in her routine.  2005 World silver medalist Natalia Chernova (RUS) took only the 12th position.  Tatiana Petrenia (BLR) and Ekaterina Khilko (UZB), who could have contended for the medals, crashed and missed the final.

UPDATE 12

It seems that the first flight in the men's individual trampoline may have received marks slightly lower than would have been deserved.  2006 World Cup Final winner Yasuhiro Ueyama (JPN) performed a nice routine with no major trouble but miss the final.  His highest execution marks was 7.40 pts whereas the lowest execution mark was 8.00 pts.  Ueyama's failure to reach the final of this 2007 Lake Placid World Cup means that his record streak of consecutive World Cup wins stopped at 5.  2005 World Champion Alexander Rusakov's routine was also of quality.  He will also miss the final.

2003 World Champion Henrik Stehlik (GER) performed a nice routine and took the lead with 69.30 pts.  Olympic Champion Yuri Nikitin (UKR) followed with 69.20 pts.  Youngsters Lu Chunlong and Dong Dong (CHN) performed very solid routines.  Ye Shuai (CHN) crashed whereas Asian Games winner Que Zhicheng (CHN) struggled.

Pan American Champion Jason Burnett (CAN) took the last spot for the final, performing a pretty good routine but with a little traveling.

Despite Ueyama's fate, Japan will have two athletes in the final with Shunsuke Nagasaki and 2005 World Championship and 2006 World Cup Final bronze medalist Tetsuya Sotomura (JPN).  Veteran German Khnychev (RUS) also made it to the final.

French Champion Gregoire Pennes and 6-time U.S. Champion Ryan Weston barely missed the final.  Peter Jensen (DEN) and Adam Goetz (GER) also missed the final by few tenths.

UPDATE 11

Very eventful preliminaries in the men's as three of the main favorites, 2006 World Cup Final winner Yasuhiro Ueyama (JPN), 2005 World Champion and 2006 European Champion Alexander Rusakov (RUS), and 2006 Asian Games winner Que Zhicheng (CHN) will miss the final.  2003 World Champion Henrik Stehlik (GER), who recently won the 2007 Flower Cup, really impressed in the preliminaries, taking the lead over Olympic Champion Yuri Nikitin (UKR).  They will be joined in the final by Pan American Champion Jason Burnett (CAN), World bronze medalist Tetsuya Sotomura (JPN), former World Champion German Khnychev (RUS), Shunsuke Nagasaki (JPN), as well youngsters Lu Chunlong (CHN) and Dong Dong (CHN), who will clearly make tomorrow's final very exciting.

It seems that World Cup Final winner Samantha Palmer (GBR) withdrew like she did last week at the 2007 British Championships in tumbling.  In her absence, 2005 World Champion Anna Korobeynikova (RUS) easily dominated.

UPDATE 6

It seems that World Cup Final winner Yasuhiro Ueyama (JPN), who swept all five World Cups in 2006 and became the first male trampolinist to win five World Cups in a row, may miss the final at this 2007 Lake Placid World Cup.  Apparently, Ueyama may be in 10th place of the preliminaries at this point.

It is a little of a surprise to see European Champion Tagir Murtazaev (RUS) edge World Champion Wang Jiexu (CHN) in these preliminaries.  Wang may have struggled a little.  World Games winner Jozef Wadecki (POL) is in 3rd place.  Tomorrow's final promises to be very disputed.

2. Yasuhiro Ueyama (JPN)    67.90 pts

UPDATE 1

Today marks the official kick off the 2007-2008 World Cup cycle with the preliminaries of the first World Cup of the year held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York, in the U.S.  The event promises to be very exciting.

Yesterday was open for training.  The unfortunate news of yesterday was that Yves Tarin (FRA), one of the top tumblers in the world, withdrew due to a serious injury at the Achilles' heel.  It is not the first time Tarin suffered from this injury.  He had withdrawn from the 2006 World Cup Final as he suffered from the Achilles' heel.

Today will start with the men's and women's individual trampoline preliminaries as well as the men's tumbling preliminaries.  Once the men's tumbling preliminaries will be over, the women's tumbling preliminaries will start.

The men's and women's synchronized trampoline preliminaries are scheduled to start at 4 pm local time.

AcrobaticSports.com would like to thank Stephan Duchesne, T&T High Performance Director at Gymnastics Canada, and Steve Sarafian for the updates they will send us to cover the event.
