French
Trampoline Head Coach Franck Bardy provided
his comments to AcrobaticSports.com on the Birmingham World Cup
Final:
"It is
difficult to analyze the competition right away because I saw
the competition from up close, and since it was forbidden to
videotape it, I did not get an opportunity to see it again on
video. As you know, when you watch the competition of the
French athletes live from just by the trampoline, you are not
necessarily unbiased. You react more based on
emotions. Frankly, I have a tough time providing my view
on the competition.
With respect
to the synchro [with Mickael Jala-Sebastien
Laifa], it was not bad at all, but less in synch than
in Metz, and it was with an average execution from both.
It was just enough to cause them to miss a medal, but there was
nothing to contest about that.
As for
David [Martin], without being
able to optimally prepare [NB: David Martin
was seriously injured after being assaulted on the streets of
Metz back in May], he performed a 15.80 pt tariff that was
penalized by travellings. Overall, he did a great
comeback in 2006, which was not an easy thing to
do.
As for
[Yasuhiro Ueyama], apparently he did a really
great job without travelling with a little 15.50 pt tariff,
which was largely counterbalanced by a very good
execution. If [Tetsuya]
Sotomura did not have to jump first in this
competition, he may have finished 1st at this
competition.
Conclusion on
this World Cup Final: A superb organization like for a show,
that brought a great light on the disciplines. A big
kudos to the British Gymnastics Federation and the Organizing
Committee. When you are a coach, you see very little of
the competition, the prohibition of video taping does not allow
an immediate analysis since we were not able to leave
Birmingham after buying the official video.
As to the
competition, 3 stars to the Japanese in the men's, and the
short athletes prevailed (the Japanese,
Rusakov, and [Que
Zhicheng]). In the women's, 3 stars for the
Canadians. In tumbling, [Wang Jiexu] was
very impressive."
