Birmingham hosted the 2006 British Trampolining Championships on July 15-16, 2006. The city of Birmingham will also host the World Cup Final in the same arena on November 25, 2006.
In the women's competition, Claire Wright (Olga), the leader of the British national team, successfully defended her British Champion title, edging Jaime Moore by only 0.10 pts. Wright performed a 13.50 pt routine that obtained a score of 36.70 pts. This 2006 British Champion title is the 6th consecutive title for Claire Wright. Jaime Moore obtained 36.60 pts in the final after performing a routine with a tariff in excess of 13 pts for the first time this year (13.10 pts). Wright and Moore had easily dominated the preliminaries obtaining 67.10 pts and 66.40 pts, more than 4 points clear off the followers. Danielle Pietruszka took the bronze medal with 34.80 pts (11.50 pt tariff), closely followed by Katherine Driscoll (34.60 pts with a 12.80 pt tariff). Cara Jamieson (33.70 pts) and Amanda Parker (33.60 pts) respectively finished 5th and 6th.
In the men's, Simon Milnes (Kirklees Rebound - pictured on the right) also successfully defended his title. Milnes performed his traditional 16.00 pt routine, obtaining 37.90 pts in the final. Milnes was joined on the podium by the surprising silver medalist James Higgins, who obtained 37.00 pts (13.40 pt tariff). Higgins had qualified to the final in 1st place after dominating the preliminaries with 66.40 pts, betting on high quality execution. Mark Alexander (Edgbarrow) was 3rd with 36.90 pts (15.10 pt tariff). He was followed by Jem Camble (36.40 pts), Brooke Milliner (35.80 pts) and Steven Walsh (35.50 pts). Philip Dodson, who was 4th before the final, could not successfully complete his routine in the final. Gary Short, Tom Lewis and Brian Camp struggled in the preliminaries and did not qualify for the final. Gary Smith withdrew as he is recovering from surgery.
In addition to his silver medal in the men's senior competition, James Higgins won the title in the over 19 age group with 97.60 pts. So did Claire Wright with 100.20 pts, edging Jaime Moore (96.70 pts) and Katherine Driscoll (95.10 pts).
Andrew Freeman barely edged his twin brother Michael (93.30 pts to 93.10 pts) to win the under 19 age group. Stacey Dann (High Flyers) won this age group in the women's (89.80 pts with a 12.00 pt tariff). Yasmin Gumbs triumphed in the under 17 age group competition (94.20 pts), edging the promising Cara Jamieson (93.60 pts), Danielle Pietruszka (91.90 pts) and Katy Ianson (91.80 pts). Nick Davies won the under 17 age group in the men's.
