The 18th Osaka Age Group Championship took place in Osaka, Japan, on July 3, 2006. The athletes had to perform two optionals.
2005 World silver medalist Yasuhiro Ueyama (JPN) easily won the 17+ age group competition with a second routine that obtained a score of 40.00 pts (15.50 pt tariff). His total score was 76.00 pts as he performed a first routine with reduced difficulty. It is a new very good performance for Ueyama in 2006 after his gold medals at the Ghent and Krasnodar World Cups and his silver medal at the 2006 Pacific Alliance Championship behing 2005 World Champion Alexander Rusakov (RUS). Takeyuki Baba was a distant 2nd behind Ueyama with 69.70 pts (13.80 pt tariff).
In the women's 17+ age group, Japanese international Haruka Hirota (pictured on the right) had no problem taking the gold with 69.30 pts thanks to a 12.10 pt tariff in the second optional. She was followed by Naoko Nishida (65.70 pts with a 9.60 pt tariff) and Naomi Nishioka (65.10 pts with a 10.10 pt tariff).
Another notable result was the victory of prodigy Subaru Shintani in the 13-14 age group with a total score of 74.50 pts thanks to two optionals that obtained scores of 37.10 pts and 37.40 pts (12.00 pt tariff).
