The city of Neufahrn in the Bayern state hosted the German trampoline Championship over the past week-end. Athletes from Switzerland and New Zealand competed as guests.
The women's individual competition saw the easy win of Olympic Champion Anna Dogonadze, who captured a new German title with a score of 36.90 pts in the final (13.40 pt tariff). She had dominated the preliminaries with 67.30 pts (13.20 pt tariff). Jessica Simon took the silver medal with 34.10 pts (12.30 pt tariff), whereas DMT specialist Kathrin Deuner (Cappel) took the bronze medal. Simon had won the title in 2005.
Sarah Syed, who was 2nd after the preliminaries with 63.30 pts, fell in the final after her 2nd move. Emily Laing from New Zealand, who competed as a guest, finished with 32.00 pts in the final (11.20 pt tariff). Catherine Auerbach and Nina Blisse fell in the preliminaries.
In the men's individual competition, former World Champion Henrik Stehlik (picture on the right) regained the German Champion title that was won last year by Martin Gromowski. The Salzgitter trampolinist won with 40.80 pts in the final (15.60 pt tariff). Gromowski had the lead after the preliminaries with 71.20 pts thanks to a 41.30 pt routine (15.80 pt tariff) whereas Stehlik was in 2nd place with 71.00 pts thanks to a 30.60 pt first routine and a 40.40 pt optional. Unfortunately, Gromowski crashed in the final after his 6th move, competing right after Stehlik's impressive routine.
The silver medal was won by German International Dennis Luxon (Salzgitter), who obtained 39.30 pts n(15.10 pt tariff). Luxon is the son of former World Champion Paul Luxon and former European Champion Ute Luxon-Pitkamin (nee Czech), now one of the coaches of the German National Team. He had very good preliminaries, qualifying to the final in 3rd place with 70.30 pts (15.60 pt tariff). The bronze medal was won by Michael Kubicka (Frankfurt Flyers) with 39.00 pts (15.60 pt tariff). Kubicka had qualified to the final only in 6th place but Adam Goetz (16.00 pt tariff) and Michael Serth (15.80 pt tariff), who had qualified to the final in 4th and 5th place, did not resist to the pressure in the final. Goetz crashed after 3 skills and Serth after 6. In the final, Michael Serth tried to compete a 17.00 pt routine
that would have breaken the German record of difficulty, currently held by Markus Kubicka with 16.80 pts. Serth's routine started by half out triffis pike, miller plus lay, half out triffis tuck, half in randy out pike, randy out pike and half in rudy out pike.
Karsten Kurtiz, who was 7th after the preliminaries was only able to perform 9 skills in the final. His brother Arvid Kuritz finished 4th. Markus Kubicka did not compete due to injury. Swiss Internationals Michel Boillet and Ludovic Martin competed as guests. They both had solid preliminaries. Boillet did well in the final (38.70 pts) whereas Martin crashed.
Christopher Schuepferling (TV Erlangen) easily won the junior title with 37.80 pts in the final (14.40 pt tariff). Carina Baumgaertner won the women's junior title with 35.60 pts (11.60 pt tariff).
In the men's synchro competition, the favorites, 2005 World Games winners Henrik Stehlik and Michael Serth
, prevailed thanks to a routine that obtained 49.50 pts in the final. The silver medal was grabbed by Martin Gromowski and Dennis Luxon
, who obtained 47.40 pts. 2005 World Silver Medalists Michel Boillet and Ludovic Martin
(SWI) obtained 47.10 pts. In the women's, the pair Anna Dogonadze-Jessica Simon was not able to win the title despite performing the highest difficulty and being the favorites. Their lack of synchronization cost them the title. The gold medal was left to be grabbed by Catherine Auerbach and Lara Hueninghake.
After the competition, German Head Coach Michael Kuhn announced the list of the trampolinists who will represent Germany at the European Championships to be held in a month in Metz, France (May 22-28, 2006). In the men's, the German Team will feature Adam Goetz (Stuttgart), Henrik Stehlik, Markus Kubicka, and Dennis Luxon. In the women's, Anna Dogonadze will be seconded by Jessica Simon, Sarah Syed (Weingarten), and Catherine Auerbach (Salzgitter).
