    Simon Milnes 2006 British Universities Champion

March 13, 2006: British International Simon Milnes convincingly won his second British Universities Champion title at the BUSA National Finals that were held on March 12, 2006, at St Martin's College at Lancaster.

 

The British Universities National Finals organized by the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) took place on March 12, 2006 at St Martin's College at Lancaster.

British International Simon Milnes (University of Manchester) convincingly won the men's individual competition.  The 2005 British Universities Champion successfully defended his title with 105.3 pts.  Despite an average first routine, Milnes delivered two very good optionals that scored 39.3 pts (16.0 pt tariff) and 39.4 pts (15.8 pt tariff).  Milnes had won the competition with 108.8 pts last year.  The 2005 British Champion confirmed his very good current shape.

Jem Camble won the silver medal with 99.1 pts and Phil Dodson (last year's silver medalist) took the bronze medal this year with 98.9 pts (13.7 pt tariff).  Nick Joyce fell in the final.

Lisa Blackburn won the women's competition with 92.2 pts, thus succeeding to Hiroi TokumaJenny Crowter and Lauren Shipman joined Blackburn on the podium. 

Milnes and Blackburn led the University of Manchester to victory in the team competition, followed by Loughborough, and U.W.I.C.
